Merchant Exchange, York

One of York's last city centre riverside sites was transformed into 22 luxury apartments by a consortium including S Harrison Developments.

The Merchant Exchange scheme included the conversion of a listed warehouse building which was designed to meet the demand for modern living space in the heart of the historic city.

The waterfront development incorporates four luxury penthouse apartments, all with rooftop gardens - a first for York. National restaurant and bar operator, The Living Room, chose the 9,000 sq ft balconied ground floor of the Merchant Exchange development as the location for its first outlet in the city.

In May 2007 the scheme won the inaugural Lord Mayor of York's Design Award with the citation reading: The award looked at schemes that have been completed in the last three years within York and we are pleased to say that Merchant Exchange stood head and shoulders above its competition.
